typography & the Internet - links

The following links show or discuss examples of typographic control applied to Web design. You may not like them all, or even agree with my choices, but these demonstrate techniques and ideas which are worth noting.

Digital Moments
An intriguing photographic record: images from the digital revolution. Creative use of graphic type and animated GIFs.

fray.com
Fray is a modern story-telling venue. It makes good use of both graphic and HTML typography, and generally plays with Web design tricks in intriguing ways.

Phoenix-pop
Interesting use of grey-on-grey type and backgrounds, plus very sharp, in-your-face Web design. Not to everyone's tasts, but worth a look.

RedSun
A thoughtful discourse on type layout in Web pages. It is just a shame they didn't take some of their own advice - and the full-width lines of text don't help matters.

luis gonzález-camino calleja
Beautifully clean and clear, and an excellent example of how 'white out of black' can work very well in Web pages.

Will-Harris House
Not the most beautiful layouts, but this offers a very good analysis of Verdana and Georgia, two fonts designed by Matthew Carter specifically with Web use in mind.
